Search Engine Optimization and Keyword Selection
Part of search engine optimization is how you select keywords and target your content for them. This helps ensure that your site can rank highly in search engines for the selected keywords. Part of this is thus to select keywords relevant to your website theme and keywords that get many searches in search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Classic search engine optimization involves optimizing the content of pages proper keywords in titles, headers and content. Some well known search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing and ASK. These are the biggest 4 players left standing. With Yahoo and Bing probably soon merging their searches and ads and Ask slow decline, we may soon only have two real search players left.
Even so, the algorithm between the relative few players left may vary considerably. Just because you have selected keywords that correspond and rank your website well in Yahoo does not necessarily mean your website will rank will in Google.
Offpage search engine optimization is also important. You will want to get backlinks (or inbound links if you will) to your website with anchor text matching your website and linked page keywords. If you get a link from a high ranking website, you are almost sure to get yours indexed as well. However, to actually rank well will require lots of work. That is why it is also important to determine competition strength when selecting keywords to optimize and rank for.
